Hi, my name is Barry Salmon, known as Baz. I was born in Mount Lawley , Western Australia, and grew up in suburban Redcliffe, Perth.
As a child I drew mostly monster type figures, then in high school art class I was introduced to an assortment of artistic endeavors. Despite my artistic aptitude I worked in offices, the building trade, fruit picking, sales, hospitality, truck and bus driving and vineyards. Then, at age 40, qualified as a horticulturist while working in Broome (Western Australia.)
Five years later I was invited to attend a two-hour workshop at a local gallery and a flame was reignited. I began to read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, a book that I came across by chance—I was not a spiritual seeker; I had no religious beliefs or understandings of anything to do with spirituality.
After reading The Power of Now, I really didn’t understand it’s meaning, but like my painting, I was compelled to read it again and again. As life carried on, I found many aspects of my life changing. Old unhealthy habits dropped away and I began to realize who I truly was.
My paintings are an expression of that spiritual connection I have with the source. The source can be expressed in with many words: God, Spirit, Universal Intelligence, Being, etc.
I am guided by my spiritual connection, and I dedicate myself to painting and continue to deepen my awareness of a greater power. I have also written in excess 80 poems and have combined the majority of my poems with paintings.
